JOB TITLE: Psych RN - FT nights-7p-7a, days vary
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The psychiatric RN coordinates nursing care and patient/family education for both adult and geriatric psychiatric populations by utilizing the nursing process. Psychiatric RNs maintain positive working relationships with staff and other departments in order to provide optimal quality outcomes within the framework of professional nursing practice. These responsibilities are met in accordance with hospital policy, the hospital mission statement and the philosophy of the department of nursing. The RN demonstrates a knowledge base and skill set necessary to provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patients served. The nurse must be able to assimilate basic knowledge and patient related data in order to perform a comprehensive and age appropriate assessment. Supervising LVN staff and non-licensed personnel is a daily responsibility of the RN. This includes making appropriate patient assignments and managing the next shifts staffing requirements according to unit policy. In addition to supervisory duties the RN will provide direct patient care and be available on the floor as the needs of the unit and patients necessitate. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with ADLS’s, transferring patients, maintaining patient observation records, medication administration, and implementation of interventions on behalf of the treatment team. The psychiatric RN is a unique position, requiring competency in providing care to acute psychiatric patients as well as assessing and treating complicated medical conditions and disease processes. The RN provides care in a customer service oriented capacity, paying specific attention to customer satisfaction and providing an environment conducive to the best outcome for every patient. Prefer one year acute psychiatric inpatient experience.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Operationally reports to the Charge Nurse, House supervisor and Unit Manager, administratively to the Unit Manager, Chief Nursing Officer and Program Director.
REQUIREMENTS: 1.) Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and possess current licensure to practice nursing in Texas 2.) Must be certified in BCLS 3.) Documented attendance in management of aggressive behavior annual training through WHS.
Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire.
New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (CPR, ACLS, PALS, BLS, and/or any other life support certifications required for the job).
OSHA TASK CATEGORY ONE: There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills splashes during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
Employment standards include current requirements as determined by Federal, State, and Wise Health System policy.
