With the impending retirement of our current director at the end of the 2020-21 school year, we are recruiting for her replacement. The new director will be hired immediately to spend the year understanding the current operations of the Rutherford Health and Wellness Center (HWC) and additionally provide support with our COVID-19 preparations and protocols. This position is responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and strategic vision of HWC and student health and wellness. It is a full-time, 12 month position. Prior school health experience is NOT required.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and revise policies, procedures and protocols to ensure high quality care for students.
  • Manage the following direct reports: director of counseling services, nurse practitioner, clinical nurses, certified nursing assistant and office administrator . Establish and maintain a culture of performance management for all direct reports, including effective onboarding, coaching and mentoring, and annual performance reviews, to foster growth.
  • Lead and manage the planning and implementation of HWC programs and strategies.
  • Oversee care delivery focusing on quality measurements and standards of care. 
  • Develop systems and supervise the operations of the HWC including appointment scheduling, insurance billing, international student health insurance, staffing, budgeting, regulatory compliance, and contract and vendor relationships.
  • Manage HWC operations for residential summer camps. 
  • Collaborate and coordinate care for all areas of student health including counseling, athletic training, and wellness.
  • Lead the weekly health care review meeting that includes the student life office, counseling, and lead clinical practitioner. Recommend  appropriate communication of  pertinent health information to administrators and faculty.
  • As a member of the student life team, coordinates with and advises the Assistant Head of School for Student Life as it pertains to residential wellness programs for students.
  • Participates in and is a member of campus interdepartmental groups and committees such as crisis management team and student life core team. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possess strong leadership and management skills
  • Demonstrated systems thinker with ability to construct and deconstruct work processes of the HWC and the intersection of that work  with other areas of the school 
  • A strong desire to work with adolescents including involvement in the broader school community
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and across departments within the school
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to also see the big picture
  • Work efficiently under time constraints

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Current PA license
  • Experience as a manager or supervisor, specifically in a clinical setting, desired
  • 5+ years experience as a nurse
  • CPR certification
  • Valid driver's license
